Xmas Challenge

ted greeneIn this run-up to Xmas, I’d like us to focus on this beautiful Ted Greene solo guitar version of ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’. [Thanks Xav for the suggestion] And it serves as a great introduction to the incredible music and mind of Ted Greene.

We’re going to learn everything we can about it. We’re going to get MASSIVELY nerdy. There’s SO much in this little arrangement. Plus there’s Ted’s handwritten notation, instructions and performance to help.

I also want you to perform it.

Now, you know the scenario: ‘Play us a piece on your guitar…’

I don’t know about you, but playing for a few family members, or people I know really well – on my own – is REALLY nerve wracking. So that’s open for discussion: how to learn a piece so it feels rock solid, how to deal with nerves, how to focus, and so on.

There’s potentially a lot we could work on just by focusing on this piece at this particular time. Let’s see how it goes.

You can watch many videos of Ted on the official YouTube channel here.

The notation shown in the video, plus a good chart with notation is here

Here’s Ted playing Hark! The Herald Angels Sing [his guitar is tuned down a whole step in the video]:

Here’s a link to the entire seminar from which this was taken.

Now, check out the first lesson. It’s just the first 3 chords.

Let’s get started…
